Presidents Column, February 2010 (Monday, February 8, 2010) By Katie Tauer, Updowntowners Board PresidentIn 2009, Updowntowners turned 25 years old - marking an anniversary that represented decades of events and festivals, in a way that only Updowntowners can. Events from the past - like July Jamm - have evolved into others - like Celebrate Lincoln. The Star City Holiday Parade has continued to be a holiday tradition and community staple. The future holds a partnership with the 2010 Special Olympics and in January Updowntowners launched the Special Event Planning arm of the organization. The Star City Holiday Parade also celebrated its 25th Anniversary in December of 2009. The sky was sunny and at 40 degrees, the weather was unbeatable. Crowds and participating entries were at record numbers. In June of 2010, Celebrate Lincoln will be delivering outstanding musical acts and international performances, along with a variety of cultural foods. The membership committee will continue to deliver great membership socials and luncheons and the Downtown Performance Series has continued to grow into a must-attend event during the summer. Thank you for part in making the last 25 years of events possible. Thank you for volunteering at events, taking part in planning committees, attending events and membership programs as well as donating dollars through membership dues and sponsorship opportunities. I encourage all of you, past and present members, to continue your support of our community and Updowntowners in 2010. I am greatly looking forward to the upcoming year of events, community activities and the positive changes that are in store for the Lincoln community.
